Collecting and Forts

What a beautiful day to be outside today! We headed out to play in the woods, and on the way we brought out "collecting jars" and collected so many crickets! There were an abundance of crickets in the field. In the woods we set up a fort with sheets and clothespins, and spent a long stretch of time out of doors. Some of the children continued to collect, others began dramatic play with the fort, others wandered with sticks and sat on rocks. Altogether a great day!

Muddy Boots Club Begins Anew!

We headed out on a beautiful afternoon to experience our first muddy boots club of the school year. The children listened intently to our "rules";

1. The Teacher goes first.
2. Use your listening ears!
3. If you want to have a stick, it needs to be the length of your arm (we demonstrated how to measure it) and you need to play with it safely.

And off we went! Today was the day to find string and yarn and sticks and go "fishing", as well as to chase, run, and explore the our outdoor space. As the teachers, we learned about the children's comfort and ease in the woods and how to best foster independent and  safe exploration and play! We also learned that there is NEVER a dull moment in muddy boots club!

Until Next Time,
Michele

Epic Muddy Boots. Seriously!

We headed out to the beautiful woods with our boots on and we were ready to play. The mud on the way was epic, and we had a few pauses to catch boots before they got caught in the mud! Once there, the children burst into active free play and ran, explored, chased, found sticks, tied string to sticks and "fished" on the bridge, and immersed themselves in the muddy boots club experience.
here's to the mud,
